Third Accident Victim dies. Funerals today. Mrs. Laura Bondurant Ehlert,
57 Waterproof, La., yesterday became the third death victim of a Monday
accident which claimed the lives of her husband and sister. The former
resident of St. Joseph died at 2 a.m. yesterday at the Baton Rouge General
Hospital. Her husband, Dr. Emile Ehlertt, 60, succumbed at the same hospital
Friday afternoon, and her sister, Mrs. Edna Bondurant Stevens, Houma, died
Monday in the accident when a city bus crashed broadside into their autommobile
at a street intersection. Double funeral rites for Mrs. Ehlert and her
husband are scheduled to be held from Foster's Funeral Home at 5 p.m. today
with interment in the City Cemetery. Active pallbearers for Dr. Ehlert
will be Ray McGehee, M. E. Hickenbottom, Orin James, E. D. Coleman, E.
B. Gillis and Charles Testa. Henry Butts, George Edmonds, Harry Goldman,
Sr., Kirk Hazelip, Lanius Preis will be active pallbearers for Mrs. Ehlert.
Honorary pallbearers for both will be John Graves, Aleck Blackman, Dr.
E. C. Ferguson, Dr. R. B. Brooks, Dalton Watson, Frank Testa, Captain Sadler,
Guy Hunter, H. C. Miller, Sr., Statham Crosby and Walter Marron. The Rev.
Louis O'Vander Thomas, Rector of Trinity Episcopal Church here, will conduct
the services. Mrs. Ehlert was a lifelong resident of Tensas parish, having
lived in both St. Joseph and Waterproof. Her husband had practiced medicine
in Waterproof for 35 years. They are survived by four sons: Dr. Charles
Ehlert, Alton, Ill., Dr. William Ehlert, Selma, Ala., Dr. Abert Ehlert,
Cincinnati, Ohio, and James Ehlert, a student at Louisians Tech at Ruston.
In addition, Mrs. Ehlert is survived by her mother, Mrs. Albert Bondurant,
Sr., St. Joseph; two brothers, Jogn H. Boundurant, Atlanta, Ga., and Albert
G. Bounderant, St. Joseph; one sister, Mrs. Gaillard G. Conner, Baton Rouge,
La., and several grandchildren. Dr. Ehlert is also survived by two brothers,
Charles Ehlert, San Antonio, Tex., and Dr. Will Ehlert, Pass Christian,
Miss.; one sister, Mrs. C. L. Wright, New Orleans, and several grandchildren.

FARRAR, DR. CALEB FRANKLIN(ALLOPATHIC PHYSICIAN)
Born September 1, 1824, died November 5, 1904. Buried in the "Farrar"
cemetery located at Kingston, Adams Co., Miss. on "Aunt Martha's" place.

#582, by the Mississippi State Board of Health, he stated that; he was
born in Adams Co., was 57 years of age, resided in Adams Co. His postoffice
address is Kingston, Miss., and he has spent 3 years in professional studies
under the supervision of J. B. C. Thornton (deceased) as his preceptor.
That he attended 3 courses of lectures at University of Louisiania, New
Orleans La. & University of Philidelphia Pennsylvania Medical School
and graduated at University Of Pennsylvania. He has practiced medicine
35 years as an Allopathic physician and he gives as reference for his character
Dr. H. H. Brenham, Senator, Dr. L. E. Profilet, Hon. C. D. Foules, Representive,
G. B. Sidway of Jackson, Miss. (the others are from Natchez.) His license
was recorded June 27th, 1882.

FERGUSON, DR. GEORGE COCHRAN
Died October 17, 1825 at 23 years old, of Yellow fever. Born at Natchez,
Adams Co., Miss. A Physician. Studied at The University of New York. Died
in Washington where he was practicing. Buried in the private cemetery at
Oakly Grove Plantation.

Died on Monday the 17th, at the residence of his Grandfather, Mr. Robert
Dunbar, Sen., Dr. George Cochran Ferguson, graduate of the medical university
of New York, in the 23d year of his age. Dr. Ferguson was a native of Adams
county Mississippi.

Ind. Arrived in Natchez November 10, 1885. In about 1888 Dr. French wrote
an article that stated that Natchez (then with a population of 11,000)
was the 2nd healthiest city in the nation (New Haven, Conn. was 1st.) He
was living at 615 Main Street. Died at his residence of
Nephritis March 19, 1913. Dr. R. D. Sessions was the reporting physician.
Dr. French is listed as a 34 year old white male born in the United States
and living in the 2nd ward at the time of the August 1886 Natchez City
Census.

Rembart of Natchez. He has been examined by the board of censors of the
6th dist. & received a Favo- able endorsement. His license was recorded
June 22nd, 1885.

The weekly newspaper of Rodney, Franklin Co., Miss. known alternately
as the "Southern Telegraph", the "Rodney Standard" or the "Rodney Telegraph"
printed the following obituary Oct. 30, 1839: "DIED --- At Natchez, of
Yellow Fever, on Monday, the 28th inst., Dr. Asa Frisby, son of Daniel
Frisby, Esq., of this vicinity. Dr. F. was a native of this county, and
graduated with distinguished honors at the Philadelphia Medical Institute.
He was a young man of modest, unassuming manners; strict integrity and
most exemplary habits and deportment - - As a physician, he enjoyed the
confidence and esteem of all who knew him - - and bid fair to become an
ornament to his profession. His loss will be a severe blow to his family,
and a source of deep regret to his many friends. W."

GAUDET, DR. LUCIEN SIDNEY(ALLOPATHIC PHYSICIAN)

#170 the monument for this "M.D." lists the information: Born May 9, 1878,

Newspaper notice: Lucien Sydney Gaudet was born at Lafourche Crossing,
La., on May 9, 1878. He was the son of the late Leon Gaudet and Laura Bangs.
He was the eldest of a family of nine children. He attended Thibodaux college,
Thibodaux. La., and St. Stanislaus College, Bay St. Louis. Miss. In 1901
he was graduated from the school of medicine of Tulane University in New
Orleans. Dr. Gaudet practiced in Morgan City and Mermentau, La. He then
moved to St. James, La., where he had the sawmill practice, private practice,
drug store and post office. From St. James he entered the Eye, Ear, Nose
& Throat hospital in New Orleans about 1917. He first became an externe
and then an interne and was on the staff of the visiting physicians and
also a teacher in the Tulane Post- Graduate School of Medicine. He opened
his office for the practice of Eye, Ear, Nose & Throat in Natchez on
July 14, 1922. His office was over the Jon Seiferth store, corner of Franklin
and Pearl streets. He was a member of the staff of the Natchez Sanitorium,
Natchez Charity Hospital and the Natchez General Hospital, being one of
the influencing factors in having the Natchez General Hospital reopened.
He was also a member of the American Medical Ass'n., Homochitto Valley
Medical Society and American Academy of Opthamology and Otolarynology.
He was Past Exalted Ruler of the Elks, a Master Mason. a Knights Templar,
Scottish Rite Mason and a Shriner. He was Past Master of Andrew Jackson
Lodge No. 2, being Master in 1929 and 1943. He is survived by his widow
Cleo Furr Gaudet, a daughter, Mrs. Keith Lanneau of Baton Rouge, La., a
son Lucien Sidney Gaudet Jr. of Natchez, a sister Mrs. J. B. LeJeune of
New Orleans, La. and three grandchildren, Lucien III, Joseph and Laura.
He is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews, one being Dr. Elmer
L. Gaudet of Natchez. Funeral services will be held at four o'clock this
(Thursday) afternoon from Trinity Episcopal Church of which he was a devout
and active member. Rev. Louis O'Vander Thomas, rector, will conduct the
services which will be followed by interment in the Natchez City Cemetery
with Foster's Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. The body will remain
at the funeral home until the time of the services. There will be Masonic
services at the graveside with the local Masonic bodies in charge. The
following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers: Active; Dr. Fred Gisenberger,
Dr. Homer Whittington, Robert Odom, Henry Gaude, Sidney Mayo and Hoskins
Deterly. Honorary; Dr. J. S. Ullman, Dr. E. E. Benoist, Dr. Kurtz Stowers,
Dr. W. K. Stowers, Cary Noble, H. V. Sessums, A. H. Levy, H. K. Hutton,
Waldon S. Hootsell and Lamar Carkeet.

Obituary: Natchez Democrat Newspaper, Tuesday morning, April 25, 1939.
Dr. William W. Giles died at his residence 822 State Street, at 6:30
p.m. on Monday, April 24th, 1939. He was born in Peoria, Ill., being the
son of the late William D. Gilles and the late Ann Uphoff Giles. He is
survived by his wife, Mrs. Ethel Casey Giles and four children. Miss Anna
Mae Giles, Jack Giles, Billie Giles and Laretta Giles, and three brothers,
Albert E. Giles and E. W. Giles both of Peoria, Ill., and Oliver Giles
of Chicago, Ill., and three sisters, Mrs. W. R. Coleman of Peoria, Ill.,
and Mrs. May Boorne and Mrs. Elsie Tucker, both of Chicago. The funeral
services will be held from the residence, 822 State at 4 p.m. Tuesday and
interment will be made in the family plot, City Cemetery. Rev. C. A. Schultz
officiating. The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers: John Lum,
Capt. Geo. Prince, Mayor E. Vogt, Raphael DeMarco, Ollie Brown, Sidney
Bunch, Jim Claughton, Pete Guido.

on a paper concerning the Board of Medical Censors is found: Thomas R.
Girault M.D. - 12th day of May 1834.
Published in the Newspaper "Dollar Democrat" (Oxford & Coffeeville,
Mississippi) under the date of February 5, 1845 is to be found the following
obituary:
Died - Thomas Richard Girault, M.D., the twelfth child and fifth son
of Colonel Jno. Girault, deceased; born at Belleveau, the family residence
within the city limits of
Natchez, October 1, 1808. He graduated from Princeton College, New Jersey,
in literary education, then entered medical college at Philadelphia, from
which he received a diploma. He continued his education at Transylvania
University at Lexington, Kentucky. He commenced practice in Natchez and
soon after removed to Tallahatchie County Mississippi, where he practiced
his profession up to his death, which took place at the residence of Maj.
J. A. Girault on the 24th day of December, 1844, aged thirty-six years.
He leaves two sisters, two brothers and other relatives to mourn his loss.

of New Orleans, Louisiana Medical School. He was not a graduate and attended
only the required lectures. he has practiced medicine for 11 years as an
Allopathic physician. He gives as character references Dr. N. L. Guice
& Dr. A. E. McNair. His license was recorded May 18th, 1885.

From Carlisle, Pennsylvania. His wife, Mary Ann Duncan was the sister
of Dr. Steven Duncan. Was in Natchez in the 1810's but returned to Carlisle
to care for their ailing father. Returned to Natchez to stay in the late
1820's, bringing his wife and daughters. Bought a plantation to supplement
his income from medicine.
GUSTINE, DR. LEMUEL
From Carlisle, Pennsylvania. A brother to Dr. James Gustine. Arrived
in Natchez soon after James. Like James also became a large-scale cotton
planter.

That he attended 2 courses of lectures at University of Baltimore, M.D.
and the Medical College of Ohio Medical School and graduated at Ohio. He
has practiced medicine 7 years as an Allopathic physician. He gives as
character reference "T. J. Scott, R. J. Williams and John L. Calcote or
any honest in Franklin Co." His license was recorded June 28th, 1882.

9, 1823. He died July 7, 1823 of Bilious Fever. Dr. S. Gustin was the reporting
physician. NOTE: There is mention of a Dr. John A. Hart in the following
record. There is a John A. Hart listed without being identified as a Dr.
He is from Connecticut and died at 32 years old on October 23, 1822 of
remittent fever.
HART, DR. JOHN
As listed in the book "Monuments in the Natchez City Cemetery" on page
#8 the monument for this Dr. lists the information: Died Oct 24, 1822,
aged 32 years.
HASSLE, DR. G.
The "Sextons Official Report" published in the newspaper to report on
those dying of yellow fever in the 1855 epidemic lists the death of Dr.
Hassle on September 11th, 1855.
"St. Mary's Cathedral, Record of deaths 1842 - 1873" lists;
September 11th, 1855. This day died and was buried Dr. Gustave Heaslé,
a native of France. He had previously received the last sacraments of the
church.

HICKS, G. SWINK, DR.
Obituary from the Natchez Democrat Newspaper, dated Tuesday, September
18, 1990, page 2A. NATCHEZ - Services for Dr. G. Swink Hicks, 80, of Natchez,
who died Saturday, Sept. 15, 1990, at his residence are 11 a.m. today at
Laird Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Odean Puckett officiating. Burial
will be in the Natchez City Cemetery under the direction of the funeral
home. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of services today at the
funeral home. He was born April 6, 1910, in Stanton, Tenn., the son of
Thomas Hicks and Mary Lavenia Swink Hicks. He was a local surgeon who had
praticed general surgery in Natchez since 1940 except four years of active
duty in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He was discharged with
the rank of major. He graduated from the University of Tennessee School
of Medicine and was trained at St. Joseph's Hospital, Memphis, Tenn., Fifth
Avenue Hospital, New York City, and Stamford General Hospital, Stamford,
Conn. He was a long time member of the First Baptist Church of Natchez,
where he served several terms on the Board of Deacons. He was active in
local, state and national medical societies, having served as president
of the Mississippi State Medical Association and the Mississippi Chapter
of the American College of Surgeons and as a regent of the Southeastern
Congress of Surgeons. He was state delegate to the American Medical Association
for 18 years. Dr. Hicks was a member of the Mississippi State Board of
Health during the Paul Johnson and John Bell Williams administrations and
the Mississippi State Board of Medical Education during the administration
of Ross Barnett.
He served as member of the Board of Trustees of Blue Cross/Blue Shield
for many years. Dr. Hicks is preceeded in death by his wife of 50 years,
Cornelia Williams Hicks, who died on May 4, 1988. Dr. Hicks is survived
by two daughters, Anne Marie Hicks Cossar of Brandon and Jean Hicks Priested
of Germantown Tenn.; one son Dr. G. Swink "Doc" Hicks Jr. of Jackson, one
brother, James Hicks of Memphis Tenn.; and five grandchildren. Pallbears
will be Dr. George Moss, Dr. Jerry Iles, Scott Kimbrell, Dr. Sidny Graves,
Van Stewart and Marion Marshall. Honorary pallbears will be members of
the Homochitto Valley Medical Society, the Administrative and nursing staff
of Jefferson Davis Memorial Hospital, Tom Green, Fred Kimbrell, Everette
Truly, Tom Reed, Sim Callon and Bob Meason.

Obituary, Natchez Democrat Newspaper, Friday Morning, June 2, 1944.
Dr. A. J. Kisner, prominent specialist, died suddenly at his residence,
801 North Union Street, at 2:45 a.m. on Thursday. While Dr. Kisner had
not enjoyed the best of health for some time past, his passing came as
a shock. He was widely known throughout this section, both in Mississippi
and Louisiania, having practiced his profession in Natchez since 1915.
Dr. Kisner was born in Yalobusha county, Miss. on June 29th, 1885. He is
survived by his wife, Mrs. Ruby Clard Kisner; three sons, Major W. Howard
Kisner, Lt. (J.G.) James Kisner, and A. Kisner, Jr.; two daughters, Mrs.
Clifford Palmer of Lakeland, Fla., and Miss Ruby Kisner, and two grandchildren.
Dr. Kisner graduated from the University of Tennessee Medical School and
Tulane University. The time and place of the funeral will be announced
later.
KISNER, DR. WENDELL HOWARD
(Obituary; Natchez Democrat Newspaper; Tuesday, December 15, 1992, Page
2A) Services for Dr. Wendell Howard Kisner, 81, of Natchez, who died Sunday,
Dec. 13, 1992, at his residence, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 16,
at Jefferson Street United Methodist Church with the Rev. Allen Winsted
officiating. Burial will be at Natchez City Cemetery under the direction
of Laird Funeral Home. Visitation is from 5 to 6:30 p.m. today at the funeral
home. He was born Aug. 18, 1911, in Luxahoma, the son of Dr. Andrew Jackson
Kisner II and Ruby Eloise Clark Kisner. He graduated from Tulane Medical
School in New Orleans and did his surgical training in New Orleans and
at the Lahey Clinic in Boston. He served five years in the U.S. Army Medical
Corps during World War II as a lieutenant colonel, and Dr. Kisner practiced
in New Orleans with Dr. Howard Mahorner prior to returning to Natchez in
1950. He was the first board certified general surgeon in Natchez, and
he practiced in Natchez until his retirement in the early 1980's. Dr. Kisner
also was a noted amateur ornithologist and bird photographer. He is preceded
in death by his parents, Dr. Andrew Jackson Kisner II and Ruby Kisner Whittington;
wife Jennie Junkin Kisner, a brother, Andrew Jackson Kisner III; and a
sister Mary Louise Kisner Monast. Survivors include a son, Dr. W. Howard
Kisner Jr. of Baton Rouge, La.; a daughter, Elizabeth Andrew Kisner of
Natchez; six grandchildren, Wendell H. Kisner III of La Grange, Ill., Aaron
L. Kisner of Gallatin, Tenn., Margaret Kisner Erdman of Newburg, Calif.,
Walter E. Kisner of Baton Rouge, Jennifer A. Cole of Baton Rouge and Fredrick
L. Cole of Natchez; three great-grandchildren; a brother, James Kisner
of Tequesta, Fla.; a sister, Ruby Kisner Sandel of Vidalia. Pallbearers
will be Wendell Howard Kisner III, Aaron Lee Kisner, Walter F. Kisner,
Fredrick L. Cole, Alan Ward Granning Jr., Charles Hugh Graning and Terry

Dr. L. H. Lamkin called by death. Funeral will be held from residence
on Monday afternoon. Dr. L. H. Lamkin passed away in New Orleans last night
about midnight. The funeral will be held from the residence of his daughter,
Mrs. T. K. Green, Monday afternoon at three o'clock. The services will
be conducted by Rev. Bruce Kuehnle, rector of Trinity Church. Dr. Lamkin
went to New Orleans about a week ago for treatment, but at the time he
left home, his illness was not considered critical, and although during
the week advices were received that he was seriously ill, the news of his
death was received as a shock. Dr. Lamkin practiced as a physician for
many years and was eminent in his profession. He retired some time ago
to devote his time to other interests. Dr. Lamkin was widely known and
highly esteemed. He is survived by his daughter, Mrs. T. K. Green of Natchez.

1947.
Last Rites for Dr. MaCammon. Brother-in-law of Ferriday woman to be
buried here. Funeral services for Dr. Vernon MaCammon, 70, who died at
his home in Arrkansas City, Ark., Monday at 6 p.m. will be held from Foster's
Funeral Home, with interment in the City Cemetery. The deceased is survived
by his widow and one sister-in-law, Mrs. Ella S. Mossis of Ferriday, La.
Dr. MaCammon was a veteran of the Spanish American War, during which he
received the "golden bits" award for outstanding service. He spent the
remainder of his life as a physician and planter in Arkansas City, and
was also company doctor for a midwest railroad. Serving as pallbearers
today will be Isadore Morris, Hale Thompson, Herman Kahn, Prentiss Carter,
Sr., Prentess Carter, Jr., and Jack Serio.

Funeral Services for Dr. John Clement McNair, retired physician who
practiced at Fayette, Miss., and was Superintendent of the Natchez Charity
Hospital, were held at two thirty o'clock yesterday afternoon from the
First Presbyterian Church. Dr. McNair died at his home at Gulfport, Miss.
following a long illness. Dr. J. Walton Stewart, pastor, conducted the
services here yesterday afternoon. A number of friends and relatives were
in attendence. Following the services at the church the procession moved
to the City Cemetery where the interment was made.

Died in Sacramento City on the 5th of Nov. last, of Cholera, Dr. Asa B.
Metcalfe in the fifty first year of his life. Dr. Metcalfe was attacked
with this dreadful disease... late in the night of the 4th inst., and so
rapid was it's progress that in 4 hours he was a corpse... Dr. Metcalfe
arrived in California little more than a year since wither he came for
the purpose of establishing his 2 sons in business. He was a resident of
Kingston, Adams Co., Miss. at which place he had lived for the past 20
years. It was his intention to return sometimes next spring to his home
in Kingston where he left the remainder of his family, consisting of his
wife and 2 daughters. Dr. Metcalfe was a physician of experence in the
profession. His sudden and unexpected death will cast a deep gloom not
only over his immediate family but a large circle of friends in the state
from whence he came.
