Natchez, December 26, 1865, 9 AM

Mr. Fixins of the C.C. was discovered this morning in a critical condition.  His disease is said by his physicians to be one long known in China, and introduced into this country only during the last 90 years.  The Chinese call it Egg-nog.  And Chin Chum, one of the most eminent of the disciples of Confucius, in his great work the Ve Vill Notgome, says that when it runs a long time, it is fatal.

Natchez, December 26, 1865 12 Noon

Old Mrs. Muggins had a fit this morning.  It is not known whether it was a fit of gout or a fit of spleen - but it is generally supposed that her dress maker had something to do with it.
