Mrs. Anderson Dies, Funeral Set On Friday. Mrs. Rosalie Virginia Hackler
Anderson, 85, of 506
B. Street died at a local hospital at seven-fifty p.m. Wednesday. Mrs.
Anderson was born
February 11, 1884 in Natchez. She was a member of the Jefferson Street
Methodist Church. She
is survived by four grand-children; James Anderson Koerber, Brinton
Anderson Koerber and
Paul Anderson Koerber and Kara Barett Koerber, all of Vidalia, LA one
sister Mrs. Grace
Cooper, Natchez, and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services
will be held at ten a.m.
Friday from the Jefferson Street Methodist Church with the Rev. W.
S. Cameron officiating.
Interment will be in the Natchez City Cemetery.

Ward Anderson Dies; Funeral Scheduled Today. Ward Burke Anderson, retired
railroad
engineer, died at 5:45 p.m. yesterday following an extended illness.
Mr. Anderson was born
August 15, 1876. He was the son of the late Edward D. Anderson and
Mrs. Laura Miller
Anderson. He was employed by the Illinois Central Railroad for 48 years,
until he retired in
1944. He was a member of the Jefferson Street Methodist Church. He
was a member of the
Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers. The Woodmen of the World, and
the Masonic Lodge. He
was a member of Andrew Jackson Masonic Lodge in Natchez. Surviving
relatives include: the
widow, Mrs. Rose Hackler Anderson; a son, Ward B. Anderson, Jr.; a
grandson, James Ward
Anderson, all of Natchez; a sister, Mrs. Nona Pattey of McMinnville,
Tenn.; a brother, Thad
Anderson of Chattanooga, Tenn. Funeral services will be held from the
residence at 506 B Street
at 4:30 p.m. today, with interment to follow in the City Cemetery with
the Foster Funeral Home
in charge of arrangements. The Rev. W.L. Elkin will officiate. Named
to act as pallbearers are:
Joe Gillen, Harold Frost, John Cooper, William F. Riley, Jack Cook
and Russell Godard, Sr.

OBITUARY: Ward Anderson Died On Sunday, Funeral Monday. Funeral
Services for Ward B.
Anderson, well known pharmacist of this community, who died on Sunday,
were held at four
o'clock yesterday afternoon from the Jefferson Street Methodist Church.
Rev. B.B. Rogers,
pastor, conducted the services which were attended by members of his
family and a large number
of friends who had known and highly esteemed this splended young man.
Mr. Anderson was
born in Natchez, Miss., on May 22, 1935, being the son of Mrs. Rose
Hackler Anderson and the
late Ward Burke Anderson, Sr. He attended and graduated from
the Natchez High School in
1984. He later graduated from the school of pharmacy of Alabama Polytechnic
at Auburn, Ala.
Mr. Anderson was a vetran of World War Two, having served two years
of service. He has been
engaged as a pharmacist in Natchez for some time and was very active
in druggist circles.
Recently he was elected Chairman of District 10 of the Mississippi
Pharmaceutical Association.
He was a devoted husband and loving father and his passing brings heartfelt
sorrow to his many
friends, as well as the members of his family. He is survived by his
wife, Mrs. Katherine Sims
Anderson, three sons, James Ward Anderson, Ward Brinton Anderson and
Paul Sims Anderson,
and his mother, Mrs. Rose Hackler Anderson. Following the services
at the church, interment
was made in the City Cemetery with Foster's Funeral Home in charge
of arrangements. The
following gentlemen served as pallbearers: William F. Riley, Butler
Barksdale, William
Bucciantini, Roy Maddox, Abe Geisenberger, Paul Klotz, Sheldon Kaiser
and Rawdon

Aubic, 86, of 600 Washington Street died at six thirty p.m. in a local
hospital. Mrs. Aubic was
born in Natchez, November 18, 1882, the daughter of the late William
and Louise Rizzi Garrity.
She is survived by her niece, Mrs. Sam B. Evans with whom she made
her home, two sons, John
L. Aubic, Natchez and Conway Aubic, Vidalia, La., a brother, F. L.
Garrity, Sr., of Natchez, two
grandchildren and a number of nieces also survive. A Rosary will be
said Friday evening at
seven p.m. at Foster Funeral Home. Mass will be said Saturday at nine
a.m. at St. Mary's
Cathedral with interment to follow in the Natchez City Cemetery. Pall

Captain Jack Aubic, River Pilot, Passes after Active Day - Had lived
in Natchez Thirty-Five
years. Captain Jack Aubic, veteran river pilot and citizen for the
past thirty-five years, died
suddenly at his home, 306 South Union, at 5:10 Saturday afternoon.
His death, which came as a
shock to relatives and friends, followed a day of normal activity during
which there were no
signs of illness. Captain Aubic was born in New Orleans, La., on July
5, 1876. He moved to
Natchez as a young man and operated out of Natchez for thirty-five
years as a Mississippi River
Pilot, employed by the United States Engineers. Surviving relatives
are: his widow, Mrs. Annie
Garrity Aubic; two sons, John L. Aubic, Jr., and Conway Aubic, both
of Natchez; two brothers,
J. B. Aubic, St. Francisville, La., and Joe Aubic, Baton Rouge, La.,
and two sisters, Miss May
Aubic and Miss Francis Aubic, both of St. Francisville. Named pallbearers
for the last rites are

was a member of Our
Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Vidalia. He attended the Cathedral
Schools in Natchez and
was a riverboat pilot for more than 40 years before his retirement.
He was aveteran of World War
II. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Noreen Burns Aubicof Vidalia;
one son, L. Conway Aubic
Jr. of Vidalia; one brother, J. L."Jack" Aubic Sr. of Natchez; one
nephew, J. L. "Jack" Aubic Jr.

Services for Charles Cameron Bahin, 83, of Natchez, who died Wednesday,
May 3, 2000 at

born Jan. 29, 1917 in Natchez, the son of Walter and Bessie Holden
Bahin. He was a retired City
of Natchez Chief of Police and a Mississippi Highway Patrolman. He
served as patrolman and
chief of detectives. He also served in the U.S. Army and the U.S. Marine
Corps. Mr. Bahin was
preceeded in death by his parents; daughter, Jean "Tootsie" Bahin Thompson;
grandson, Jeffery
Hudnall; and wife, Jennie Rose Perrault Bahin. Survivors include two

David Beer, youngest son of the late Abraham Beer and Mrs. Ester Beer,
passed away in
Memphis at 3 o'clock Sunday Morning and his death came as a profound
shock to his loved ones
and a wide circle of warm friends. Mr. Beer was a native of Natchez
and he spent the early part
of his life in this city, numbering his friends here by the countless
hundreds. He is survived by
two brothers, Simon Beer of New Orleans and Fred Beer of this city.

reached Natchez at 3:30
o'clock Monday Morning via the Y. & M. V. train and the funeral
services were held in the

Leroy Garrity, Miss Sarah Butchart and one son, Tom Butchart, one sister

and one brother, Joseph P. Meath. Mrs. Butchart was a devout member

she was a devoted wife andd mother, a loyal and generous friend and
her death has brought
sorrow to many hearts. The funeral services will be held in St. Mary's

Services for Dr. Phillip Joseph Bayon, 84, of Ormonde Plantation in
Natchez, who died Saturday (Sept.2) at Jefferson Davis Memorial Hospital,
are today at 7 p.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Visitation will be today
from 6 to 7 p.m. at the church. Burial will be Monday (Sept. 4) in Metairie,
La. under the direction of Laird's Funeral Home of Natchez. Born in New
Orleans on May 12, 1905, the son of Henry and Jeanne Bayon, he was a graduate
of Tulane Medical School and was formerly associated with Ochsner Clinic
in New Orleans. He had practiced in Natchez since 1947 before retiring.
He was a member of St. Mary's Cathedral in Natchez. His professional affiliations
included the American Board of Otolaryngology, Mississippi State Medical
Association, American Medical Association, the Trilogical Society and Homochitto
Valley Medical Society. He was past chief of staff of Jefferson Davis Memorial
Hospital. He was a veteran of World War II, during which he served in Africa
and the Mediterranean theater. He was a charter member and a director of
the board of Natchez Community Concert Association and a former member
of the Natchez School Board. He is survived by two daughters, Laura Bayon
of New Orleans, and Lucille Bayon Landry of Natchez, a grandson, Phillip
Bayon Landry, and granddaughter, Ormonde Butler Landry, both of Natchez;
a brother, Maurice M. Bayon, and a sister, Lucille Bayon, both of New Orleans.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ormonde Butler Bayon. Pallbearers
will be Jerry Beach, Dr. Howard Kisner, Dr. Thomas H. Gandy, Dr. Hugh Tedder,
Robert Lehman, B. Chandler Jordan, Richard A. Campbell and Jack Stevens.

Marcus Beekman Called by Death, Funeral Services to be held here at
Eleven Thirty This Morning -- Dr. Marcus Beekman, born in New York City
on July 21, 1884, died in New Orleans, La. on April 23, 1939, where he
had been at Turo Infirmary for the past three weeks for medical attention.
His death brings heartfelt sorrow to everyone who knew him. Dr. Beekman
was a graduate of the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn N. Y., in 1906 in electrical
engineering. He later entered Tulane Medical School and graduated in 1911.
He then served two years internship at the Natchez Charity Hospital in
1911 and 1912. He began the active practice of medicine in Natchez in 1912
and continued here in active practice until a few years ago, when, on account
of his health, he retired. Until his retirement, he was associated with
his uncle, the late beloved Dr. Phillip Beekman. He was a member of the
American Medical Association and Radiological Society of North America,
the Adams County Medical Society and Homochitto Valley Medical Society.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Lena Trich Beekman; his mother, Mrs. Libbie
W. Beekman and his sister Miss Evadne Beekman, all of Natchez. Funeral
services will be held from the residence on North Commerce street at eleven-thirty
o'clock this (Tuesday) morning with Rabbi Meyer Marx officiating. Interment
in the city cemetery. The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers:

Services for Frank Patrick Byrne, 62, who died Saturday, July 29, 2000,

and was an active member of the Santa Claus Committee and served as Santa
in 1977. He was president of Byrne Insurance Agency and Byrne and Laird
Development Corporation. He was a member of the Independent Insurance Agents
of America and served as past-president of the Southwest Independent Insurance
Agents of Mississippi. Mr. Byrne was preceded in death by his parents;
a daughter, Ann Blair Byrne; and two brothers, William Joseph Byrne Jr.
and John Phillip Byrne Sr. Survivors include his wife, Audrey Lynn Byrne;
two daughters and their husbands, Laura Lynn and Dale Lund and Tara Byrne
and Paul Brooks all of Natchez; one son and his wife, F. Patrick and Amy
Byrne of St. Louis; four grandchildren, Lynne Byrne Young, Crystal Ann

her 76th year of age... born in Vicksburg, brought to Natchez in her
infancy... last of three sisters,
Mrs. Thomas Brown of this city and Mrs. Duttrey of Tacoma Washington,
both passing on
several years ago, the latter was a twin sister to Mrs. Phalan. She
is survived by her daughter,
Mrs. Catherine Koerber and three sons Mike P., John L. and Tom Phalen
all of whom were with
her at her last illness and death..... also 7 nephews, 3 neices and

The sudden and untimely death of Mrs. Elodie Butchart Garrity, yesterday
afternoon at four
o'clock, brought sorrow and grief to the large number of
citizens of this community who had
known this splendid Christian woman during her lifetime. A loving mother
and devoted wife -
possessing all of the characteristics of a true Christian woman - kindly
in her thoughts of others -
charitable to those in need and distress, and possessing a pleasing
personality, the death of Mrs.
Garrity brings sorrow, not only to the members of her family, but to
her legion of friends. Mrs.
Elodie Butchart Garrity was born in Natchez, January 31, 1889, being
the daughter of the late
Byron B. Butchart and Mary Meath Butchart. She spent her entire life
in this community and
received her education in the schools of this city. She was a devout
member of the congregation
of St. Mary's Cathedral. She is survived by her husband, Leroy Garrity,
six children, Leroy
Garrity, Jr., Mary Louise Garrity, Mildred Garrity, Robert Garrity,
Joseph Garrity, William
Garrity; one brother, Thomas Butchart and one sister, Sarah Butchart.
The funeral services will
be held this afternoon at four-thirty from the residence at No. 156
St. Catherine street. The

Byron Butchart Called By Death On Sunday Night. Stricken with a sudden
heart attack at his
residence, No. 144 St. Catherine Street Sunday night, Mr. Byron B.
Butchart succumbed before
medical aid, hurriedly summoned could reach him. The sudden death of
Mr. Butchart came as a
great shock to his devoted loved ones and to a wide circle of friends.
Mr. Butchart was a quiet
unassuming gentleman, a man of unquestioned honesty, a devoted father
to his children, a kind
neighbor and a loyal friend; he numbered a wide circle of friends who
sincerly morn his passing.
Mr. Butchart is survived by three children, Mrs. Leroy Garrity, Tom
A. Butchart and Miss Sarah
Butchart. He was born in Canada October 11, 1863, his wife, Mrs. Mary
Butchart preceeded him
to the grave some few years ago. The funeral services were held in
St. Mary's Cathedral Monday
afternoon at five o'clock. Rev. Father Charles Hunter officiated and
the following gentlemen
served as pallbearers: A. T. Bowie, Sr., J. G. Stutzman, Joseph W.
Kaiser, Jake Richards, Capt.
George Prince and Ferdinand L. Passbach. A large concourse of friends
joined the family in
paying their respects to the family expressing their love and sympathy

Passing of County road patrolman brings sorrow to many friends. Many
sorrowing friends paid
tribute to the memory of Thomas A. Butchart when last rites were held
for him at St. Mary's
Cathedral on Monday morning at eleven o'clock. The church was filled
for the service, for Mr.
Butchart was widely known and numbered his friends from all ranks of
life. State Highway
Patrolmen, members of the Natchez police force, city and county officials,
with whom the
deceased had been associated, joined others in attending the funeral.
Mr. Butchart passed away at
his home on St. Catherine street at 7:30 p.m. Sunday. He had been ill
for only a short while and
his death came as a shock to all who knew him. For some time past he
had served as county road
patrolman, and he served so efficiently in this position that he was
unanimously re-elected by the
Adams County Board of Supervisors, when the new administration took
over on the first of
January. He was an enthusiastic member of the Natchez Volunteer Fire
Department, being a
member of Eagle Hook and Ladder No. 2 Company, and he was also a veteran
of the world war.
Mr. Butchart was born in Natchez on August 30th, 1892, being the son
of the late Byron and
Mrs. Mary Meath Butchart. He is survived by his sister, Mrs Sarah Butchart
Peters and a number
of nieces and nephews. He spent his entire life in Natchez. Interment
was made in the City
Cemetery and the following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Leroy Garrity,
Billie Garrity and
Robert Garrity, Clarence Weeks, Chas. Weeks and Richard Sanguinetti.
County and city officials
served as honorary pallbearers.

Vidalia town attorney from 1950 to 1962. He was a member of the Seventh
Judicial District,
Louisiana State and the American Bar Associations, American Judicature
Society. He was a
Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus and a member of Our Lady of Lourdes
Catholic Church,
where he was an active member of the Mens Club and Parish Council.
Mr. Calhoun was
preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Robert D. Calhoun Jr.
Survivors include his wife
Jean Falkenheiner Calhoun of Vidalia; daughter, Katherine Calhoun of
Vidalia; daughter and
son-in-law, Mary Ann and Mark Carter of Vidalia; two grandsons, Mark
Carter Jr and Will

Concordia Parish pays tribute to one of
it's leading physicians, officials and citizens and mourns the death of
Dr. Ervin Morris Campbell who passed away on Tuesday. Friends from throught
the parish with whom Dr. Campbell was so long associated will gather at
the Methodist Church in Ferriday at three o'clock this afternoon for the
funeral services conducted by Rev. John H. Sewell, assisted by Rev. J.
H. Hamilton with special music by the choir. Dr. Campbell was born in Jackson
Parish La., in 1875. He was married to Miss Lucille Cordell of Winnsboro
in 1910 and they established their residence in Ferriday in March, 1927.
The three sons of Dr. Campbell will be unable to attend his funeral for
they are in the armed services - William Cordell Campbell and Charles Morris
Campbell are serving in the South Pacafic, while the third, Russell Ervin
Campbell is stationed in San Diego. Dr. Campbell is survived by his brothers
and sisters, Albert C. Campbell, Pioneer, La., John P. Campbell, Oak Grove,
La., Iley Campbell, Angolia, La., Mrs. Frances Fowler, Oak Grove, La.,
Mrs. Elizabeth McGrew, Pioneer, La., Mrs. A. Roberts, Texas. The following
will serve as pall bearers at the funeral which will be in charge of Young's
Funeral Home; W. M. Heckler, E. W. Vogt, Dr. A. B. Brown, R. C. Murray,

CHAPPIELER, DR. FRANCIS
OBITUARY: DIED: On Monday Night last, (November
20, 1854,) Dr. Francis Chappellier, for many years a resident of this city.
This estimable gentleman, whose death will be so much deplored, and by
so large a circle of friends here and elsewhere, was born on the 1st of
January, 1805, at Neufchateau, Department of the Vesges, France. He graduated
from the University of France on the 15th November, 1828, and received
his diploma as Doctor of Medicine from said University on the 16th August,
1838. Dr. C. emigrated to the United States and settled at Natchez, in
June 1840, where he has resided ever since, with the exception of a brief
sojourn in New Orleans of six or eight months in the fall and winter of
1852-3 for the benefit of his health. He leaves an aged mother, two brothers
and a married sister, residing now in France. He enjoyed to an enviable
degree the respect, confidence, esteem and friendship of every member of
the medical faculty of Natchez - and dies lamented by the entire community.
His remains were borne to their last resting place in the Catholic Cemetery,
from St. Mary's Cathedral where funeral services were celebrated at 3 P.

Place In Natchez This
Morning. The funeral cortege of Dr. J. L. Clayton, who died shortly
after 6 o'clock Friday
evening at his home in Clayton, La., will start from Foster's funeral
parlors in Main street this
morning at nine o'clock. Devine services will be held at the grave
at 9:30 a.m. Dr. J. L. Clayton
was one of the most prominent residents of Concordia Parish, La., and
was well known over the
state. He had been in bad health for more than a year and his death
was not unexpected. He was
52 years old. Dr. Clayton had long been prominent in the affairs of
the section of the state in
which he lived. He formerly represented his parish in the state legislature,
was a former member
of the district levee board, and until recently a member of the school
board. He practiced
medicine for twenty years and probably no one in that section had a
wider acquaintance. The
deceased was a son of the late Captain John M. Clayton, of Clayton.
He was prominent in several
fraternal orders, belonging to the Masonic Lodge of Florence, La.,
and to the Vidalia Lodge of
the Knights of Pythius. His wife, Mrs. Annie Blocksom Clayton, and
four children, three girls
and a boy survive him, besides the following sisters and brothers:
Mrs. J. S. Johnson, Arkansas
City, Ark.; Hon. J. E. Clayton, Vidalia, La.; S. M. Clayton, Clayton,
La. Dr. Clayton will be
buried with Masonic Honors. Harmony Lodge No. 1, F. and A. M. of Natchez

July 28 - John Elliott Clayton, Jr., native of Vidalia, La., and founder
of the Concordia Parish
Fair, died at a local hospital at three fifty o'clock this morning,
following an extended illness. Mr.
Clayton was a member of the Southern Commercial Secretaries Association
and was manager of
the Young Men's Department of the New Orleans Association of Commerce
for a number of
years. He was acting secretary for Chamber of Commerce in the following
cities; Roswell, N.M.,
Homa, La., Oakdale, La., Columbus, Miss., and Jackson, Tenn.
In addition to the Concordia
Parish Fair, he also organized the Moorehouse Parish Fair. Recently
and until about three years
ago he was the president of the National Organization Service which
specialized in raising funds
for commercial and other organizations. He was a member of the Elks,
Knights of Pythias, Lions
International and American Legion. He is survived by one sister, Mrs.

Capt. John M. Clayton, a wealthy planter of Clayton Station, Concordia
parish, La., died at his
home at that place Wednesday night, aged seventy-two years. Capt. Clayton
was a distinguished
soldier in the war between the states. He organized a company of Confederate
soldiers and was
elected Captain. He was very popular with his men as he was with all
men with whom he came
in contact. He was a prominent member of the order of Knights of Pythias
and local members of
the order will attend his funeral which takes place from Foster's Funeral
Parlors this afternoon at
1 o'clock. Capt. Clayton was twice married and is survived by
his second wife. He also leaves

Sept. 27 - S. M. Clayton, Sr., lifelong Concordia Parish resident and
prominent Clayton citizen,
died today in a Ferriday Hospital. He was 73. Mr. Clayton was a son
of the man for whom this
thriving Louisiana town was named. According to family records, Mr.
Clayton's father was one
of seven brothers all of whom moved to different states and for each
of whom a town was named
after he took up residence in his new state. Funeral services will
be held tomorrow (Wednesday)
from the Clayton Methodist Church, with the pastor, the Rev. Don Alverson
officiating.
Interment will be in the City Cemetery at Natchez. Mr. Clayton is survived
by three sons and
