Funeral services for Dr. G. Stewart Handy,
well known dentist of this community for more than fifty years, who passed
to his eternal reward on Monday morning, after a lengthy illness, will
be held at eleven o'clock this (Tuesday) morning from the residence of
his son G. Stewart Handy, Jr. in Woodland Park on Duncan Avenue. Dr. Handy,
who was held in the very highest regard in his profession, was a splendid
citizen and during the years he was engaged in practice here took a very
active interest and part in civic affairs. He was born January 26, 1878
in Canton Miss., being the son of the late Horace and Emma Denson Handy.
He was educated in Canton and attended Baltimore College of Dental Surgery,
University of Maryland, where he graduated in 1901. He established his
dental practice in Natchez in September 1901 and continued practicing here
for more than fifty years. He was a member of Psi Omega Dental Fraternity,
The American Dental Assn., held a life membership in the American Dental
Assn., the Southwest Mississippi Dental Society, the Adams County

Hicks, 80, of Natchez, who died Saturday, Sept. 15, 1990, at his residence
are 11 a.m. today at Laird Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Odean Puckett
officiating. Burial will be in the Natchez City Cemetery under the direction
of the funeral home. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of services
today at the funeral home. He was born April 6, 1910, in Stanton, Tenn.,
the son of Thomas Hicks and Mary Lavenia Swink Hicks. He was a local surgeon
who had practiced general surgery in Natchez since 1940 except four years
of active duty in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He was discharged
with the rank of major. He graduated from the University of Tennessee School
of Medicine and was trained at St. Joseph's Hospital, Memphis, Tenn., Fifth
Avenue Hospital, New York City, and Stamford General Hospital, Stamford,
Conn. He was a long time member of the First Baptist Church of Natchez,
where he served several terms on the Board of Deacons. He was active in
local, state and national medical societies, having served as president
of the Mississippi State Medical Association and the Mississippi Chapter
of the American College of Surgeons and as a regent of the Southeastern
Congress of Surgeons. He was state delegate to the American Medical Association
for 18 years. Dr. Hicks was a member of the Mississippi State Board of
Health during the Paul Johnson and John Bell Williams administrations and
the Mississippi State Board of Medical Education during the administration
of Ross Barnett. He served as member of the Board of Trustees of Blue Cross/Blue
Shield for many years. Dr. Hicks is preceded in death by his wife of 50
years, Cornelia Williams Hicks, who died on May 4, 1988. Dr. Hicks is survived
by two daughters, Anne Marie Hicks Cossar of Brandon and Jean Hicks Priested
of Germantown Tenn.; one son Dr. G. Swink "Doc" Hicks Jr. of Jackson, one
brother, James Hicks of Memphis Tenn.; and five grandchildren. Pallbears
will be Dr. George Moss, Dr. Jerry Iles, Scott Kimbrell, Dr. Sidny Graves,
Van Stewart and Marion Marshall. Honorary pall bearers will be members
of the Homochitto Valley Medical Society, the Administrative and nursing
staff of Jefferson Davis Memorial Hospital, Tom Green, Fred Kimbrell, Everette
Truly, Tom Reed, Sim Callon and Bob Meason.

Vernon Hackler Dies, Services Set For Today. Vernon L. Hackler, life
long resident of Natchez
died at 7:55 last evening at the Natchez General Hospital. He had been
taken to the hospital
yesterday morning. Mr. Hackler, who had lived at 14 Breil Avenue, was
born in Natchez May
24th, 1894 being the son of the late Louis E. and Mrs. Virginia Noyes
Hackler. He is survived by
his wife Mrs. Minnie Bonham Hackler, two sisters, Mrs. W.B. Anderson
and Mrs. J. N. Cooper,
Sr., all of Natchez and a number of nieces and nephews. Mr. Hackler
spent his entire life in
Natchez and was employed by the Natchez and Southern RR for 32 years,
retiring a few years
ago due to ill health. He was a World War One Veteran, being a member
of Co. "B" 155 Miss
Infantry. He was a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign
Wars. Funeral
services will be held from the Foster Funeral Home at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday
and interment will
be made in the family plot, City Cemetery. Rev. C. C. Vlerk officiating.

Held on
Sunday Afternoon. Funeral services for Everett Dodd Hammett,
who passed away on Sunday
morning at twelve-thirty were held at the Foster Funeral Home at 3:30
Sunday afternoon,
conducted by Rev. W. M. Sullivan of the Methodist Church. Mr. Hammett
was born near Fayette
on May 29, 1859, the son of Obadiah Dodd Hammett and Mary Ann Barland
Hammett, the
former a native of Kentucky. The deceased attended Oakland College
near Rodney. He was
married to Ella Fanny Martin of Martin, Miss. and of this union there
were eleven children. Mrs.
Hammetts death occurred in 1916 after 31 years of married life. Mr.
Hammett was married the
second time Mrs. Madelyn Perrault O'Malley and of this union there
were three children. Mr.
Norman Hammett of Ypsilanti, Michigan, Charles Horace and Claude Hammett
of Ferriday and
Martin and E. J. Hammett of Natchez. Mrs. J. Schmeider of Baton Rouge,
Mrs. V. Dawson of
Woodville, Mrs. J. F. Button, Mrs. G. Thornberry, Mrs. Grover Stanton
and Mary Magdelyn and
Olive Hammett of Natchez. There are twenty-one grandchildren
living and one great great
grandchild and one sister, Mrs. Amanda McGinthy of Brandonton, Florida.
Interment was made
in the family plot, with the following serving as pallbearers: John
Junkin, M. Hastings, J. Haley,
D. Anderson, C. Anderson and H. Button.

George L. Hackler died in Jackson, Miss., at six o'clock on Sunday

held on Monday afternoon at two-thirty o'clock from the home of his

North Pearl street here. Mr. Hackler was born in Natchez Nov. 30, 1889
being the son of the late
Louis E. and Virginia Noyes Hackler. He is survived by three brothers,
Ed. Hackler of Monroe,
La., B. L. Hackler and Vernon L. Hackler of this city, and two sisters,
Mrs. J. N. Cooper and
Mrs. W. B. Anderson. Rev. C. C. Clark of the Jefferson Street Methodist
Church conducted the
impressive funeral services. Interment was made in the family plot
at the city cemetery. The

of Mrs. Hannah Hester were held in Foster's Funeral home yesterday
afternoon at three o'clock.
In the absence of Rev. O. S. Lewis, of the Jefferson Street Methodist
Church, Rev. George D.
Booth, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church officiated. The interment
was made in the family
plot, city cemetery. A large concourse of sorrowing friends joined
the family in paying their
respects to this noble Christian woman. A profusion of beautiful flowers
were sent by sorrowing
friends. Mrs. Hester's death on Tuesday night at Clayton, Louisiana,
following an illness of

February 11, 1884 in Natchez. She was a member of the Jefferson Street
Methodist Church. She
is survived by four grand-children; James Anderson Koerber, Brinton
Anderson Koerber and
Paul Anderson Koerber and Kara Barett Koerber, all of Vidalia, LA one
sister Mrs. Grace
Cooper, Natchez, and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services
will be held at ten a.m.
Friday from the Jefferson Street Methodist Church with the Rev. W.
S. Cameron officiating.
Interment will be in the Natchez City Cemetery.

Vernon Hackler Dies, Services Set For Today. Vernon L. Hackler, life
long resident of Natchez
died at 7:55 last evening at the Natchez General Hospital. He had been
taken to the hospital
yesterday morning. Mr. Hackler, who had lived at 14 Breil Avenue, was
born in Natchez May
24th, 1894 being the son of the late Louis E. and Mrs. Virginia Noyes
Hackler. He is survived by
his wife Mrs. Minnie Bonham Hackler, two sisters, Mrs. W.B. Anderson
and Mrs. J. N. Cooper,
Sr., all of Natchez and a number of nieces and nephews. Mr. Hackler
spent his entire life in
Natchez and was employed by the Natchez and Southern RR for 32 years,
retiring a few years
ago due to ill health. He was a World War One Veteran, being a member
of Co. "B" 155 Miss
Infantry. He was a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign
Wars. Funeral
services will be held from the Foster Funeral Home at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday
and interment will
be made in the family plot, City Cemetery. Rev. C. C. Vlerk officiating.

Sunday Afternoon. Funeral services for Everett Dodd Hammett,
who passed away on Sunday
morning at twelve-thirty were held at the Foster Funeral Home at 3:30
Sunday afternoon,
conducted by Rev. W. M. Sullivan of the Methodist Church. Mr. Hammett
was born near Fayette
on May 29, 1859, the son of Obadiah Dodd Hammett and Mary Ann Barland
Hammett, the
former a native of Kentucky. The deceased attended Oakland College
near Rodney. He was
married to Ella Fanny Martin of Martin, Miss. and of this union there
were eleven children. Mrs.
Hammetts death occurred in 1916 after 31 years of married life. Mr.
Hammett was married the
second time Mrs. Madelyn Perrault O'Malley and of this union there
were three children. Mr.
Norman Hammett of Ypsilanti, Michigan, Charles Horace and Claude Hammett
of Ferriday and
Martin and E. J. Hammett of Natchez. Mrs. J. Schmeider of Baton Rouge,
Mrs. V. Dawson of
Woodville, Mrs. J. F. Button, Mrs. G. Thornberry, Mrs. Grover Stanton
and Mary Magdelyn and
Olive Hammett of Natchez. There are twenty-one grandchildren
living and one great great
grandchild and one sister, Mrs. Amanda McGinthy of Brandonton, Florida.
Interment was made
in the family plot, with the following serving as pallbearers: John
Junkin, M. Hastings, J. Haley,
D. Anderson, C. Anderson and H. Button.

Mrs. John R. Junkin, well known and beloved local resident who was
very active in civic affairs,
died suddenly on Thursday morning at eight fifteen o'clock, bringing
heartfelt sorrow to the
members of her family and legion of warm friends. Mrs. Junkin, who
was the former Miss
Sophie Dix, was a lifelong resident of Natchez and had been in good
health until the time of her
sudden passing. She was a member of the Daughters of the Americal Revolution
for forty years
and presently was Curator of the Mississippi Daughters of the American
Revolution in which
organzation she was very active on both the local and state levels.
Mrs. Junkin was a charter
member of the Pilgrimage Garden Club and was chairman of the Confederate
Pageant, evening
entertainment of the Natchez Pilgrimage. She took a very deep and active
intrest in Pilgrimage
and particularly in the pageant, the success of which can be atributed
to her interest and efforts.
She was a member of the Natchez Cemetery Association; a member of the
Garden Clubs of
America; a member of the American Legion Auxillary and a communicant
of St. Mary's
Cathedral. Mrs. Junkin was born in Natchez, Miss., on October 8, 1900,
being the daughter of the
late David M. Dix and Mrs. Sallie Wensel Dix. She is survived by her
husband, Rep. John R.
Junkin, two daughters, Mrs. Sallie Ballard of Natchez, Miss., and Mrs.
Sophie Gauthier of
Shreveport, La., five grandchildren and a number of neices and nephews.
Rosary was recited in
the chapel of the Foster's Funeral Home at eight o'clock last night.
Funeral services will be held
with Requiem Mass at St. Mary's Cathedral at eleven o'clock this (Friday)
morning. Interment
will be in the family plot in the Natchez City Cemetery with Foster's
Funeral Home in charge of

KISNER, DR. ANDREW JACKSON

Morning, June 2, 1944.
Dr. A. J. Kisner, prominent specialist,
died suddenly at his residence, 801 North Union Street, at 2:45 a.m. on
Thursday. While Dr. Kisner had not enjoyed the best of health for some
time past, his passing came as a shock. He was widely known throughout
this section, both in Mississippi and Louisiana, having practiced his profession
in Natchez since 1915. Dr. Kisner was born in Yalobusha county, Miss. on
June 29th, 1885. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ruby Clard Kisner; three
sons, Major W. Howard Kisner, Lt. (J.G.) James Kisner, and A. Kisner, Jr.;
two daughters, Mrs. Clifford Palmer of Lakeland, Fla., and Miss Ruby Kisner,
and two grandchildren. Dr. Kisner graduated from the University of Tennessee
Medical School and Tulane University. The time and place of the funeral
will be announced later.

Services for Dr. Wendell Howard Kisner,
81, of Natchez, who died Sunday, Dec. 13, 1992, at his residence, will
be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 16, at Jefferson Street United Methodist
Church with the Rev. Allen Winsted officiating. Burial will be at Natchez
City Cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home. Visitation is
from 5 to 6:30 p.m. today at the funeral home. He was born Aug. 18, 1911,
in Luxahoma, the son of Dr. Andrew Jackson Kisner II and Ruby Eloise Clark
Kisner. He graduated from Tulane Medical School in New Orleans and did
his surgical training in New Orleans and at the Lahey Clinic in Boston.
He served five years in the U.S. Army Medical Corps during World War II
as a lieutenant colonel, and Dr. Kisner practiced in New Orleans with Dr.
Howard Mahorner prior to returning to Natchez in 1950. He was the first
board certified general surgeon in Natchez, and he practiced in Natchez
until his retirement in the early 1980's. Dr. Kisner also was a noted amateur
ornithologist and bird photographer. He is preceded in death by his parents,
Dr. Andrew Jackson Kisner II and Ruby Kisner Whittington; wife Jennie Junkin
Kisner, a brother, Andrew Jackson Kisner III; and a sister Mary Louise
Kisner Monast. Survivors include a son, Dr. W. Howard Kisner Jr. of Baton
Rouge, La.; a daughter, Elizabeth Andrew Kisner of Natchez; six grandchildren,
Wendell H. Kisner III of La Grange, Ill., Aaron L. Kisner of Gallatin,
Tenn., Margaret Kisner Erdman of Newburg, Calif., Walter E. Kisner of Baton
Rouge, Jennifer A. Cole of Baton Rouge and Fredrick L. Cole of Natchez;
three great-grandchildren; a brother, James Kisner of Tequesta, Fla.; a
sister, Ruby Kisner Sandel of Vidalia. Pallbearers will be Wendell Howard

LAMKIN, DR. LEWIS HENRY

Dr. L. H. Lamkin called by death. Funeral
will be held from residence on Monday afternoon. Dr. L. H. Lamkin passed
away in New Orleans last night about midnight. The funeral will be held
from the residence of his daughter, Mrs. T. K. Green, Monday afternoon
at three o'clock. The services will be conducted by Rev. Bruce Kuehnle,
rector of Trinity Church. Dr. Lamkin went to New Orleans about a week ago
for treatment, but at the time he left home, his illness was not considered
critical, and although during the week advices were received that he was
seriously ill, the news of his death was received as a shock. Dr. Lamkin
practiced as a physician for many years and was eminent in his profession.
He retired some time ago to devote his time to other interests. Dr. Lamkin
was widely known and highly esteemed. He is survived by his daughter, Mrs.
T. K. Green of Natchez.
