Obituary, Natchez Democrat Newspaper, Tuesday morning February 24, 1953.

Dr. L. B. McLaurin, who had engaged in the practice of Dentistry here since 1905, died at 8:15 p.m. yesterday after an extended illness. Surviving relatives include: the widow, Mrs. Leona Rauch McLaurin of Natchez; and a daughter, Miss Lillian McLaurin of Washington, D.C. Time and place of the funeral to be announced later by the Foster Funeral Home.

Ferriday, La. - Services for Lola Vivian Matthews Murray, 95, of Vidalia, La., who died Thursday, July 20, at Community Hospital in Natchez, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 22, at Comer Funeral Home Chapel in Ferriday with the Rev. Jon Edgell officiating. Burial will be at Greenlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Comer Funeral Home. Visitation is from 8 to 8 p.m., Friday at the funeral home. Murray was born May 20, 1905 in Ellisville. She was a homemaker and member of the Evangelical Church of Natchez. She is survived by one son and his wife, Matthews and Mary Bob Murray of Shreveport, Two daughters and their husbands, Elanor M. and James Talley of Vidalia, Ann and Ray Coley of Ferriday; one foster son and his wife, Robert and Betty Gray of McCloud, Calif.; five step-children and their wives, Ken and Janell Swearingen at Bayou La Batre, Ala., Mary Sue and Raymond Farish of Morrilton, Ark., Bobby Sue and Virgil Zachary of Morrilton, Freda and Robert Almond of Fort Smith, Ark., and Nina Butler of Austin, Texas; 13 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. Pall bearers will be Jim Bob Talley, Jason Herbert, Bruce Curley, George Murray Jr., Jacob Harrelson and Bret Murray.

Last Rites for Dr. MaCammon. Brother-in-law of Ferriday woman to be buried here. Funeral services for Dr. Vernon MaCammon, 70, who died at his home in Arkansas City, Ark., Monday at 6 p.m. will be held from Foster's Funeral Home, with interment in the City Cemetery. The deceased is survived by his widow and one sister-in-law, Mrs. Ella S. Mossis of Ferriday, La. Dr. MaCammon was a veteran of the Spanish American War, during which he received the "golden bits" award for outstanding service. He spent the remainder of his life as a physician and planter in Arkansas City, and was also company doctor for a Midwest railroad. Serving as pallbearers today will be Isadore Morris, Hale Thompson, Herman Kahn, Prentiss Carter, Sr., Prentess Carter, Jr., and Jack Serio.


McNAIR, DR. J. C.

OBITUARY: Natchez Democrat Newspaper, Friday morning, October 19, 1951.

Funeral Services for Dr. John Clement McNair, retired physician who practiced at Fayette, Miss., and was Superintendent of the Natchez Charity Hospital, were held at two thirty o'clock yesterday afternoon from the First Presbyterian Church. Dr. McNair died at his home at Gulfport, Miss. following a long illness. Dr. J. Walton Stewart, pastor, conducted the services here yesterday afternoon. A number of friends and relatives were in attendance. Following the services at the church the procession moved to the City Cemetery where the interment was made.


METCALFE, DR. ASA B.

OBITUARY: San Francisco News, Dec. 27, 1850.

Metcalfe, Dr. Asa B. Died in Sacramento City on the 5th of Nov. last, of Cholera, Dr. Asa B. Metcalfe in the fifty first year of his life. Dr. Metcalfe was attacked with this dreadful disease... late in the night of the 4th inst., and so rapid was it's progress that in 4 hours he was a corpse... Dr. Metcalfe arrived in California little more than a year since wither he came for the purpose of establishing his 2 sons in business. He was a resident of Kingston, Adams Co., Miss. at which place he had lived for the past 20 years. It was his intention to return sometimes next spring to his home in Kingston where he left the remainder of his family, consisting of his wife and 2 daughters. Dr. Metcalfe was a physician of experence in the profession. His sudden and unexpected death will cast a deep gloom not only over his immediate family but a large circle of friends in the state from whence he came.

morning.. Fanny Martin was one of the most popular sports figures in Natchez and Vidalia for
many years. There are both young and old who knew and highly respected "Fanny" as he was
known to everyone. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Della Meng Martin, and two sons, Francis
Martin Jr., and John Milton Martin of Vidalia, LA. Funeral services will be held at nine o'clock
mass at St. Mary's Cathedral this morning, followed by interment in the family plot in the city

to 8:30 p.m. today at the church. A Rosary service will be at 7:15 p.m. Saturday visitation will be
from 9 a.m. until service time at the church. Mr. Martin was born Sept. 11, 1930, in Natchez, the
son of Delia Meng Martin and the late Francis Martin Sr. He was an army veteran of the Korean
war and was an active member of the Mens Club, Knights of Columbus and a former member of
the Parish Council. He retired from Johns Manville Company. Mr. Martin was preceded in death
by his father Francis "Fanny" Martin, Sr. and one son, Edward Butler Martin. Survivors include
his wife, Bernadette (Wunky) Butler Martin of Vidalia; four sons, Robert "Skip" Martin of
Monroe, Johnny Martin Jr., Freddie Martin and Joey Martin, all of Vidalia; two daughters,
Bridgid Martin and Lisa Martin Finley, both of Vidalia; his mother, Delia Ming Martin
of Vidalia; one brother, Francis Martin of Natchez; two daughters-in-law, Mary Darnell Martin
of Monroe and Kathy Ledbetter Martin of Vidalia; one son-in-law Don Finley of Vidalia; five
grandchildren, Aimee Martin and Jenny Martin of Monroe, Jarred Martin, Ashley Dyer and Jake

Miss Floy E. (Miss Bessie) McClutchie, 91, of 77 St. Catherine Street died late yesterday in a
Jackson Mississippi hospital after an illness of 1 week. She was a native and lifelong resident of
Natchez and a member of the First Presbyterian Church. Miss Bessie retired four years ago after
many years as a saleslady in the millinery department of Famous and Price. She was the
daughter of the late Henry Clay and Malissa McClutchie. Survivors include 2 sisters, Mrs.
Rachel Pearson, Natchez, and Mrs. Harry C. Gallager, Hazelhurst. 3 Nieces, Mrs. Ethel Warren,
Natchez, Mrs. Dan Lane, New Orleans, La. and Mrs. Bill Bozeman, Hazlehurst; 2 nephews, H.
C. Gallagher, Natchez, and E. H. Gallagher, Seattle, Washington, and a number of great nieces
and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 today from the chapel of Foster
Funeral Home, with Rev. Julian White, associate pastor of the First Presbyterian Church
officiating. Interment will be at the Natchez City Cemetery. Pallbears will be Sidney Warren,

Meath Funeral Services To Be This Morning. Funeral Services for John A. Meath, well known
resident of Natchez, who died early Friday morning, will be held at nine o'clock requiem Mass at
St. Mary's Cathedral this (Saturday) morning. The body will remain at Fosters Funeral Home
until the time of the funeral. John Meath was born in Natchez, Miss. September 13, 1890, being
the son of the late John and Bridget Shoulders Meath. He spent practically all his life here. He is
survived by his wife, Mrs. Teresa Perrault Meath and a number of nieces and nephews. He was a
veteran of World War one and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was an
Honorary Member of the Knights of Columbus. Following the services at the Cathederal this
morning interment will be made in the city cemetery.  The following gentlemen will serve as
pallbearers: Charles Eidt, Adrian Beatty, Willie Maier, Sr., Kenneth Graves, Will Cole, C. F.

Mr. Joseph Patrick Meath

Joseph P. Meath Dies; Funeral Services Today.  Joseph Patrick Meath, 92, passed to his eternal
reward at one-thirty a.m. Monday at a local nursing home. Mr. Meath was a devout member of
St. Mary's Cathedral here.  He was an honorary member of the Knights of Columbus and had
served for more than fifty years as a member of the Natchez Volunteer Fire Department.  He was
a retired sheet metal worker.  He was born in Natchez on June 26, 1874, being the son of the late
Thomas and Sarah Meath. All his life had been spent in Natchez and Mr. Meath counted his
friends here by the legion.  Survivors include a son-in-law, Ben Styron and a number of nieces
and nephews.  A Rosary was said Monday night at 8:30 at Foster Funeral Home.  Funeral
Services will be held at ten a.m. today with a requiem Mass at St. Mary's Cathedral. Interment
will be in the family plot of the Natchez City Cemetery.  Named as pallbearers are: Leroy
Garrity, Jr., Floyd McCalip, Jr., J. L. McDaniel, Earl McGaughey, Tommy Dorsey and Charles
Weeks.

An undated newspaper obituary states that he was 70 years of age, served as Mayor of Vidalia
for 16 years, also served on the Levee Board. He was a sucessful planter. He was born in
Natchez, Miss., May 17, 1888, was the son of the late Peter Murray and Matilda Ketteringham

Charles H. Perrault Jr. of Natchez; and nieces and nephews. The body will remain at Foster

Mrs. Patricia Wilds Myers (nee, Patricia Wilds)

Funeral Services were held for Patricia Wilds Myers, 75 years of age, of St. Joseph, Louisiana on
Thursday, December 30, 1999, at the St. Joseph's Catholic Church in St. Joseph. Patricia died on
Tuesday, December 28 at St. Francis Cabrini Hospital in Alexandria after a lengthy illness.
Father Anthony Aelavanthara, Father William Denis and Father Alfred Camp celebrated the
funeral Mass. Visitation was held on Wednesday night at Laird Funeral Home in Natchez,
Mississippi. Father Anthony Aelavanthara led family and friends in the Glorious mysteries of the
Holy Rosary. Interment was in the Natchez City Cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral
Home of Natchez. Mrs. Myers was born on June 27, 1924, in Natchez, Mississippi, to Alice
Robinson and Oliver Newton Wilds, Sr. Pat was a graduate of Joseph Moore Davidson High
School in St. Joseph and attended Sophie Newcomb College in New Orleans and Louisiana Tech
University in Ruston where she was a member of Kappa Delta Sorority. She graduated from the
University of Alabama. On November 17, 1949, Patrica Wilds and Paul Alexander Myers, Jr.
were wed. In 1953 they bought the Tensas Gazette. After his death in 1964, she continued as the
publisher/owner of the Tensas Gazette. In 1974 when she purchased the Richland Beacon-News
in Rayville, she served as publisher/owner of both newspapers. She retired in 1988. Pat was
actively involved in community affairs. She was a member of the Tensas Development Board,
Tensas Garden Club, Pilgrimage Garden Club of Natchez, St. Joseph Cosmopolitan Club, The
3rd Monday Bridge Club, The Lake Bruin Country Club, The Bruin-Vidal Chapter of the
Daughters of the American Revolution and a patron of the St. Joseph Community Orchestra. She
was on the advisory council of the Tensas Plantation Museum, and Wildlife Museum. She was
recently appointed to the Louisiana State Park Foundation Board and was instrumental in the
reopening of Winter Quarters, a state commemorative plantation in Newellton. She served as the
official hostess at The Briars (an antebellum home converted to a bed and breakfast) in Natchez,
Mississippi during the pilgrimage for many years. In 1997 she was selected as Citizen of the
Year by the St. Joseph Rotary Club. Mrs. Myers was a lifelong member of the Roman Catholic
Faith and member of the St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Mrs. Myers is survived by her beloved
brother, Newton Wilds of Natchez, Mississippi and four children: Paul Alexander "Andy"
Myers, III of Gulf Breeze Florida, and wife, Dee; LaRue Myers Cooper of Dry Prong; Oliver
Myers of Temecula, California; Paul Myers IV of Hattisburg, Mississippi; two
step-grandchildren Lisa Schroeder and Kevin Register both of Florida; and one
great-granddaughter Sydney Catherine Lee of St. Joseph; and three step-great-grandchildren
Kaylee Minton, Bryce Schroeder and Alyssa Register all of Florida. Serving the family as
pallbearers were Jimmy Crigler, Robert James Lancaster, Oliver Berry, Freddie Baragona, Stan
Bagwell, Jack Grace, Jr., Prent Castle, Sr., Phil Watson and William Wade Watson. Memorials
may be made to the St. Joseph's Catholic Church.
 


Mrs. Agnes Millican (nee, Agnes Theophele Perrault)

Mrs. Millican Funeral Mass At 11 A.M. Today. Mrs. Agnes Millican died Friday evening at
Baton Rouge, La. She was born in Natchez, July 31, 1882. She is survived by one sister, Mrs. E.
D. Hammett of Natchez. She was the daughter of the late James and Gregory Perrault. She had
made her home in Baton Rouge for a number of years with her niece, Mrs. Harry Ballinger, who
also survives her. The remains will be at Foster Funeral Home until the time of services, which
will be at 11 AM Mass Saturday, from St. Mary's Cathedral.

Funeral Services Of Mrs. Millican Held Yesterday. Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Millican who
died on Friday in Baton Rouge La. were held at eleven o'clock Mass yesterday at St. Mary's
Cathedral. Many relatives and friends of Mrs. Millican gathered at the church to attend the
services and pay final earthly tribute to this splendid Christian woman. Following the services at
the Cathedral the procession moved to the city cemetery where interment was made with Fosters
Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Tracehaven Nursing Home in Natchez, Msgr. Henry Beckers and Father Murray Clayton
officiated at the services. She was a native of Louisiana. She is survived by one son, George C.
Murray Sr. of Vidalia; two daughters, Mrs. Lucille M. Clayton and Mrs. Sarah M. Shumway,
both of Vidalia; eight grand children, 10 great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.

Mr. John Leslie Murray
An undated newspaper clipping states that J. L. Murray was a former president of the Concordia
Parish Police Jury, was 73 years old when he died, was a member of the Police Jury for over 30
years, was a Deputy sheriff and a veteran of World War I. Lived in Vidalia for more than 50
years and is buried in Greenlawn Memorial Park in Natchez. Survivors included his widow Mrs.
Lola Murray, two daughters, Mrs Eleanor M. Talley and Mrs. Lola Ann Crulee all of Vidalia;
one son, Charles M. Murray, Shreveport; one sister, Mrs. Katherine Falkenheiner, Vidalia; one
brother, Sidney A. Murray Sr., Vidalia; nine grandchildren.

VIDALIA, La. - Funeral services for Mildred D. Murray, 75, who died Monday, Jan. 19, 1998 at
Natchez Regional Medical Center, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, at the Our Lady of Lourdes
Catholic Church in Vidalia, with the Rev. Paul Kunnumpuram officiating. Burial will be in the
Natchez City Cemetery, under the direction of Laird Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 6 to
8 p.m. today at the church with a Rosary service at 8 p.m. Miss Murray was born Feb. 25, 1922
in Vidalia, the daughter of the late Sidney Augustine Murray and Thelma Weist Murray. She
graduated from Vidalia High School as Valedictorian of her class. She attended Sophie
Newcomb College in New Orleans where she studied biology and chemistry. She graduated with
a BS degree from Tulane University. Miss Murray began her career at the Southern Regional
Research Center in New Orleans. During WWII she was engaged in research and the
development of a process to produce synthetic rubber using weeds, thus providing a product in
critical need for military vehicles. In 1959 she relinquished her career to return to Vidalia to care
for her mother who had become ill, and later for her father. She was employed by the local ASCS
office and worked there for many years until her retirement. She was a devout member of her
church and devoted her life to her church and family. Survivors include a sister, Corinne Nichols;
one brother Sidney A. Murray Jr., both of Vidalia; one niece, Patricia Lane of Vidalia; five
nephews, C.V. Nichols Jr., of Vidalia, Mark Nichols of Houston, Sidney Murray III, William
Murray of Vidalia and Stephen Murray of Point Clear Ala.; and a number of grand-nephews and
one grand-niece.  Pallbearers are Sidney A. Murray III, Sidney A. Murray IV, William A.
Murray, Stephen D. Murray, Mark Nichols, C.V. Nichols Jr., and Mike Lane.  In lieu of flowers
the family requests donations be made to the charity of your choice.

home. She was born Feb. 27, 1921, in Ferriday, La., the daughter of James Powers and Almo
White Honea. She was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, where she
participated in the Altar Society and the Secular Order of Discalced Carmelites. She also was a
member of the Friendship Demonstration Club.  She was preceded in death by her husband,
Ceorge C. Murray, and a brother George Honea.  Survivors include two daughters, Margaret M.
Williams and Eileen M. Brineger, both of Vidalia; two sons, George C. Murray Jr. of Vidalia and
James A, Murray of Charlottesville, Va.; eight grandchildren, and one great-grandchild; one
brother, James E. Honea of Kilgore, Texas.  Pallbearers will be David Brineger, Pat Powers, Bill
Stahlman, Michael Shumway, Duffy Guillory and Charles Clayton. Honorary pallbearers will be
Raymond Guillory, Dr. W. T. Polk. Logan Sewell, Natham Calhoun, Bill McDonough. Pat
Sledge, Gary Ivy and Charles F. "Dutch" Beard.  The family requests memorials be made to Our
Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church or Natchez Cathedral School.

Services for Mrs. Jerry Wyler Murray, 70, of Vidalia, La., who died Tuesday, June 1, 1999 at her
residence, will be at 10 a.m. today at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church with the Rev. Paul

Murray was born June 25, 1928 in New Orleans, La., the daughter of Albert G. and Geraldine
Greve Wyler. She graduated from Sophie Wright High School in New Orleans with honors and
as valdictorian of her class. She attended Sophie Newcomb College where she received a BS
degree in mathematics. She was a housewife. Mrs. Murray was preceded in death by her parents.
Survivors include her husband, Sidney A. Murray Jr. of Vidalia; one daughter, Patricia Lane;
three sons, Sidney A. Murray III. William A. Murray and Stephen D. Murray; nine
grandchildren, Sidney A. Murray IV, Raymond Murray, Guy Murray, Kyle Murray, Zelma
Murray, Bart Lane, Charlie Lane, Wyler Murray and Aaron Murray; one great-granddaughter,
Sidney Rae Murray; and twin sister, Allie Verlander of Metairie, La. Pallbearers will be Mark
Nichols, Mike Lane, Sidney A. Murray IV, Raymond A. Murray, Guy Murray and Kyle Murray.

Obituaries: Sidney A. Murray. Funeral services for Sidney A. Murray, 94, of Vidalia will be held
at 11 a.m. Thursday, February 6, 1992 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Vidalia. The
Rev. Harvey Fortier will officiate. Burial will be in the Natchez City Cemetery. Visitation will be
from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Laird Funeral Home. Mr. Murray died Tuesday, Feb. 4, at Jefferson
Davis Hospital. He was born April 13, 1897 in Natchez, the son of Peter L. Murray and Matilda
Ketteringham Murray. A resident of Vidalia since 1916, he was retired and was formerly
engaged in banking, insurance and accounting businesses. Mr. Murray served as city clerk of
Vidalia from 1920 to 1950. He was a member of the Vidalia Board of Aldermen from 1932 to
1952. He was amember of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. He was precceded in death by
his wife, Thelma Levee Murray. Survivors include a son, Sidney A. Murray Jr., and
daughter-in-law, Mrs. Jerry W. Murray, and two daughters, Corinne M. Nichols and Mildred D.
Murray, all of Vidalia; six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; a sister, Katherine M.
Falkenheiner of Vidalia; and a number of other relatives. Serving as pallbearers will be Sidney
A. Murray III, William A. Murray, Stephen D. Murray, Charles V. Nichols Jr.,
Mark M. Nichols and Michael A. Lane. The family requests that memorials be

Mr. Charles Vernon "Teddy" Nichols

Obituary; Charles V. Nichols, NATCHEZ - Services for Charles V. "Teddy" Nichols, 74, of
Vidalia, La., who died Wednesday May 2, 1990 at Jefferson Davis Memorial Hospital, are 11
a.m. today at the Laird Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. R. Jefferson Coker officiating. Burial
will be in the Greenlawn Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of the funeral home.
Visitation begins at 10 a.m. in the funeral home. He was born in Montecello Ark., March 14,
1916, the son of Edward B. and Margaret Pierce Nichols. He was retired. He served for 16 years
on the Concordia Parish Hospital Board and 24 years on the Board of Directors at UniFed
Savings and Loan. He served on the Vidalia Planning Commission and the Tacony Restoration
Committee. He was past owner of Dale, Nichols and Millican Insurance Agency. He was a
veteran of World War II, serving in the Army Air Corps in the South Pacific for 36 months. He is
preceeded in death by his parents, Edward B. Nichols and Margaret P. Nichols; and his uncle and
aunt, Albert and Mary Belle Nichols who reared him. Survivors include his wife Corinne Murray
Nichols of Vidalia; two sons, Charles Vernon "Butch" Nichols of Vidalia and Mary Murray
Nichols of Kenner, La.; one brother, Fay M. Nichols of Vidalia; and one grandson, Trevor Paul
Nichols of Kenner. Pallbears will be C.F. "Dutch" Beard, Jack Dale, Bill Koerber, Jim Mullaney,
Percey Roundtree, Fred Schiele and Hershal Wilson. Honorary pallbearer will be Dr. Thomas H.
Gandy. The family requests donations may be made to the Tacony Restoration Committee or the
charity of choice.
