Dominco Santino Signaigo
OBITUARY: Mississippi Free Trader newspaper. Wednesday July 18, 1849,
Page #2, Col. #3
DIED on the 8th inst., Dominico Santino Signaigo, only son of A. J.
and Catherine Signaigo, of
this city. This promising and truly interesting child was only two
years old and died of an illness
of two days. All attempts to arrest the disease seemed without effect.
He loved all he knew, and
all that knew him loved him sincerely. He was his parents joy and the
delight of their friends, and
it is not to be wondered at if they sorrow - yet not without good hope
of meeting their offspring
in eternal day; and while we cannot stay the tide of grief, oh may
we stay every murmuring sigh,
and say: - (here follows 5 verses of a poem)
Mr.Augustine John Signaigo
OBITUARY: Natchez Democrat (Natchez, Miss. newspaper) Thursday morning,
November 7,
1867.
Death of Mr. A. J. Signaigo. -- We are deeply pained to announce the
death of this gentleman --
one of the most esteemed and useful citizens of Natchez. He died Tuesday
afternoon, 5th inst.,
after a protracted and very painful illness. The deceased was a native
of Italy; he came to Natchez
in 1844, since which time he has lived here and been engaged in mercantile
pursuits. -- By his
probity of character, and energy, he rapidly won the esteem of the
community, and he has ever
been respected amongst us as one of the most upright and useful of
our citizens. His loss will be
felt not only by his bereaved family and by a large circle of friends,
but by the community at
large. It is always a melancholy duty to record the death of any one
of our good citizens; but the
writer, in this instance, is not only called upon to record the event,
but to recognize in it the
painful reality that he has lost a true friend -- one whose goodness
of heart and kindness of
disposition he can speak with intimate knowledge and the most gentle
remembrances. May he
rest in peace, and may his afflicted family derive comfort from a knowledge
of the fact that he
lived uprightly, and died in peace with God and man.
