The SCULLY family is comprised of descendants of James Scully, who was
born in Ireland in 1814, and immigrated to America in 1837. His
Declaration of Intent wasfiled in Washington, D.C. in 1841. By 1845,
he had migrated to Natchez, Adams Co, MS, where he obtained his
citizenship. He married Elizabeth EVERETT that same year.
Their elder daughter,
Ellen Jane SCULLY, married Theodore Lacy BAUER, in
1869, in Natchez.

By 1860 the Scully family
was living in New Providence, Carroll Par, LA. Around 1866 (probably
after a flood that destroyed the old town) the family relocated in Memphis,
Shelby County, TN. James was a tailor.
The BAUER family is comprised of descendants of Theodore Frederick BAUER,
who was born in Bavaria, Germany in 1818, and immigrated to America
sometime before1844. Theodore settled for a number of years in New Orleans,
where he marriedSarah Elizabeth HALL, an immigrant from London, England.
In about 1850 the familymigrated to Natchez, Adams Co, MS, where the eldest
son, Theodore LacyBAUER, married Ellen Jane SCULLY in 1869.
The merging of these two families eventually produced scores of children,
grandchildren, and great grandchildren, and linked several large families
from theeastern half of the United States. Some were Revolutionary War
Patriots, and CivilWar veterans. Some were doctors or nurses. Some
were governors. Three werefamous pioneer aviators. But most were simple
God-fearing and hard-workingindividuals who who went about the daily business
of raising their children to be
honest, productive, responsible,
and loving adults.
